TROUBLESHOOT : GEAR NOISES

For your information, drum cartridge is just a media to transfer heat in order for the toner powder to be dispersed thus resulting in a printing. However, toner and drum cartridges in Brother machine are located side by side which have caused most customers to incorrectly state which cartridge caused the issue. To identify:

  1. Turn off and unplug (RESET) the printer [wait for at least 10 seconds]
    2. Remove the drum unit from the machine & remove the toner cartridge from the drum
  2. Close the front cover, press firmly until the cover clicks and plug the power cord back

*** If the grinding or clicking noise continues, you will need to replace the drum unit. However, if the noises stop, the issue on the drum is resolved. Please continue to the next step to verify whether the issue is caused by the toner:

  1. Install the toner cartridge into the drum unit (make sure it clicks)
  2. Install the toner and drum unit into the machine and close the front cover
  3. Plug the power cord back into the machine and install as regular way

*** If the grinding or clicking noise continues, you will need to replace the toner cartridge.
